Water Conservation Is A Way Of Life In Los Osos

Our water customers have been proactive in enacting water conservation measures.  We thank them for their continued conservation efforts.

Ways to conserve include:

  • Use a broom to sweep your driveway instead of hosing it off with water
  • Soak pots and pans instead of letting water run while you scrape them clean]
  • Learn how to read your water meter; there is a leak indicator that will move if you have a leak
  • Check your toilet for possible leaks, if it makes noise when nobody is using it you may need to replace the flapper
  •  Use a commercial car wash that recycles water to wash your vehicle

The LOCSD website has a whole page dedicated to water conservation with all sorts of links and related information.  Take a look to see some of these tips and other ways you can save water.  You can find it by clicking on this link  https://www.losososcsd.org/water-conservation

Thank you for doing your best to conserve water.

Bi-Monthly Water Rates and Charges starting July 1, 2025

At the June 5, 2025 Board of Directors meeting the District conducted a Public Hearing, considered public comment in support and in opposition to the proposed rate increase and whether or not a majority protest exists pursuant to Section 6 of Article XIII D of the California Constitution;  there were 289 total protests counted.  So, there was not a majority protest. Effective July 1, 2025 the new rates will go into effect as noted below.

"Compostable" Plastics Are Trash!
A hand holding a green bag labeled "compostable," with text criticizing single-use "compostable" plastics as misleading.

From our friends at IWMA - Have you ever used a single-use plastic product that was labeled "compostable" or "biodegradable" with a little symbol on it? They typically look and feel identical to regular plastic products, but market themselves as an eco-friendly alternative. People often ask if these can go in your curbside green bin here in SLO County, and the answer is NO. In short, they take too long to degrade (BPI certification takes as many as 12 weeks!) that they can't be processed in our compost facilities locally. They also look identical to regular, petroleum-based look-alikes, which makes it difficult for our facilities to process. Please don't put any plastic items into your green bin, including those green bags sold to collect kitchen scraps!
