Spring Compost Giveaway - March 28th from 10am-2pm

SLO County's Anaerobic Digestion facility, Kompogas, is hosting their Spring Compost Giveaway on Saturday, March 28th, from 10 AM - 2 PM. at their facility located at 4300 Old Santa Fe Road in SLO.
Just as a reminder, this is a free event for the general public to pick up some organic certified compost derived from our Anaerobic Digestion facility which created renewable biogas and electricity from the Counties Green Bin Organics program.
We encourage everybody that does some home gardening to stop by and get some compost as a way to say thank you to the community for your diligent participation and putting your green and food waste into the green bins.
As always, for people coming with a pick up truck or trailer, please make sure to bring a tarp to cover the load when you leave the compound. There will be a separate line for people that like to shovel their own. Just check in with our friendly volunteers and they will guide you to the appropriate queue.
THIS IS A FREE EVENT FOR THE GENERAL PUBLIC. NO COMMERCIAL BUSINESSES OR LANDSCAPERS PLEASE.
For more information, check out Kompogas on Facebook.
Water Conservation is a Way of Life for Los Osos Residents
Living in Los Osos we take our approach to water seriously. We rely completely on groundwater and we know we need to conserve. Sometimes we need to be gently reminded that water should be conserved. You can do more to save water by thinking before you run water.
Here are some water conservation tips for indoors and out:
- Water outdoor vegetation only between the hours of dusk and dawn
- If you spill ice cubes on the floor, pick them up and put them in a houseplant
- Soak your dirty dishes in a sink full of water instead of running the water while washing
- If your toilet flapper doesn’t close properly after flushing, replace it
- Look at your water meter, there is a leak indicator that will move if water is passing through it
- Turn off the water when brushing your teeth, it can save 10 gallons per person per day
- Plant California native plants and use less water
- Always run a full load of laundry and save 15 to 45 gallons per load
- Reuse your cooking water by watering a plant
- Wash your vehicle at a carwash, they recycle the water
- Fix leaky faucets around your house
- Every drop counts, use water wisely
The LOCSD website has a whole page dedicated to water conservation with all sorts of links and related information. Take a look to see some of these tips and other ways you can save water. You can find it by clicking on this link https://www.losososcsd.org/water-conservation
Thank you for doing your best to conserve water.
You Can Put Wine Corks into the Green Bin!

Did you know your wine cork can go into your green bin ?
Natural wine corks are made from cork trees and therefore can be placed in your green bin. You can tell if you have a natural cork because it will be easy to dig your fingernail into or break into smaller pieces!
You can also break up your wine cork into the soil of your potted plants to help reduce water evaporation on warm days
