Make Your Watering System Efficient

An efficient watering system applies the right amount of water to the right parts of the garden at the right time. This conserves water and saves you money. Watering efficiently means:

  1. Watering according to plant needs, soil type, and sun exposure.
  2. Purchasing a smart controller that only waters when it is needed based on weather patterns.
  3. Programming the controller you presently have to fit your needs and needs only. Turning it off when the weather permits.
  4. Using a modern irrigation system like stream rotors, low-flow systems like drip and micro-sprays.
  5. Avoiding runoff on hard surfaces like sidewalks, driveways, and decks.
  6. Utilizing other sustainable practices such as mulching to retain soil moisture, water-wise plant selection, and use of alternative water supplies like collected rainwater or greywater.

Native plants that are established require little or no watering, so know how much and how often you need to water the plants in your yard. Due to the fact that Los Osos is built on sand dunes, our soil will percolate most water applied but monitor your irrigation system to prevent runoff.  So, knowing the right amount will help conserve water and promote healthy, sustainable landscapes.

Upcoming Board and Committee Meetings

LOCSD is also continuing with their regularly scheduled Board, Utilities Advisory Committee, Finance Advisory Committee, Emergency Services Advisory Committee and Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee Meetings. 

Information for each meeting and how to get connected will be available on the Agenda for each meeting. Agendas can be found on the LOCSD Website (losososcsd.org) which is posted a minimum of 72 hours before the meeting time.
